Roen Pobjie – Director and Head Instructor – Sydney/Adelaide
As Director and Head Instructor of Apex Self Defence, Roen has always held a view that effective training needs to be as reality-based as possible.
During his years in Russia, Roen experienced a few situations that without training found him lucky to survive. Once repatriated, he made it his goal to develop as many skills as possible to avoid and deal with attacks and assaults.
Roen went on to train and become a certified instructor in Krav Maga under Krav Maga International (KMI) with head trainers for the Israeli Defence Force, Ran Nakash and Itay Dannenberg. He also cross trains in boxing, BJJ, MMA and Muay Thai, taking elements from these martial arts to create effective self defence programs for his students.

Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a military based self defence and fighting system developed for the Israel Defence Force. The original concept of Krav Maga was to take the most effective and practical techniques of other fighting styles such as boxing, wrestling, judo, aikido, and street fighting, and to package it in a way that was able to be learned rapidly.
At Apex Self Defence, we stay true to the core principles of Krav Maga to help you move, fight, and survive real-life threats, and give you the skills that help you protect yourself and those you care about. As well as integrating the original techniques that have been battle tested for over 80 years, we acknowledge that as combat has evolved, as well as the growth in popularity of combat sports, our defence techniques need to evolve as well. For that reason, we also integrate techniques from Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to ensure that you can effectively defend yourself.
Krav Maga training can get you in shape and increase your strength, speed, and stamina. The process of drilling and conditioning involved in our training is also an intense workout. All the aspects involved, whether it be the striking, techniques, or movements, will help build on your physical fitness levels. For more in-depth information on what we teach, click here.
